Honorable Wilmot J.M. Paye is the current Minister of Mines and Energy for the Republic of Liberia. He is a Mining Engineer by profession and an accomplished politician, hailing from Nimba County in Northern Liberia.
With extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, Minister Paye oversees all departments within the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), working closely with the Deputy and Assistant Ministers. He reports directly to the President of Liberia regarding progress, challenges, and solutions aimed at keeping the mining and energy sectors vibrant and contributing to the national budget.
Minister Paye is a strategic thinker with over ten years of leadership experience in Liberia’s public sector, possessing a comprehensive understanding of key governance issues related to the Mining and Energy sectors. Prior to his current role, he served as the Assistant Minister for Research and Technical Services at the former Ministry of Gender, now known as the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MGCSP). He has also held positions as Assistant Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Assistant Minister for Road and Rail Transport at the Ministry of Transport.
In terms of political leadership, Minister Paye has served as the National Secretary General of the Unity Party and later became the National Chairman of the Unity Party. He is currently a member of the Party’s National Executive Committee and previously served as a member of the Joint Presidential Transition Team in 2024, where he led the Energy and Petroleum Cluster Working Group.
The significant transformational changes occurring at the Ministry of Mines and Energy are attributed to his effective servant leadership and collaborative teamwork with the Deputy and Assistant Ministers.
