SIERRA LEONE, LIBERIA, UNDERTAKE KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE ON MINERALS VALUATION, KIMBERLEY PROCESS CERTIFICATION SCHEME

March 5, 2025-MONROVIA: A four-person delegation led by the Director of the Office of Precious Minerals, Rebecca Kumba Fallah, from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has concluded a working visit to the National Minerals Agency—Directorate of Precious Minerals Trading (PMT) in Sierra Leone.

 

The Liberian delegation was in Freetown for a knowledge exchange program on mineral valuations and the implementation of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in the Mano River Union (MRU) countries with the objective of increasing efforts to improve the mineral sector and strengthen relationship between the MRU countries. Director Fallah and team were warmly welcome by her Sierra Leonean Counterpart, Director for Precious Minerals Trading, Mohammed Bah , and the Director-General for National Minerals Agency of Sierra Leone, Alhadji Ing. Hadji Dabo.

 

Through the Precious Minerals Trading's chain of custody (from mines to export), and minerals (gold and diamond) valuation process, the team gained a thorough understanding of the Sierra Leonean system of mineral valuations, the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme implementation, obstacles, and solutions, among other experience sharing.

 

According to Liberia’s Office of Precious Minerals Director, the working sessions were significant to forward steps toward strengthening Liberia's capacities in the mineral sector, and the knowledge acquired will improve the Country’s operational frameworks and also support the integrity and transparency of the mineral trade in the MRU region. The program was sponsored by the German Technical Cooperation – GIZ.
