LIBERIA HYDROLOGICAL SERVICE UNDERTAKES WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT TRAINING

April 21, 2025-MONROVIA: The Ministry of Mines and Energy through the Department of Mines and Exploration has trained a new ‘Boat Operator’ for the Liberia Hydrological Service aimed at capacitating the LHS in carrying out its functions of collecting and distributing water resources information that leads to informed decision making in terms of water related development that includes flooding preparedness, drainage design, hydropower generation, and agricultural purposes, among others.

The training of the Boat Operator was part of a two-day training exercise undertaken by the Liberia Hydrological Service (LHS), headed by Wynitta Gwaikolo-Mayson. Director Mayson and staff of the LHS conducted day one activities of the training indoor at the central office of the Mines and Energy Ministry, while day two activities were conducted in the field.

During the field exercises, LHS Water Engineers and Technicians were drilled through important areas such as water level measurement using the staff gauge and tripod which is a surveying instrument, and the discharge measurement using the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP).
