May 23, 2025-MONROVIA: The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, H.E Dr. Indira Lopez Arguelles, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, at his office in Monrovia. Friday’s visit marked the first interaction between the Cuban Ambassador, and the Liberian Minister of Mines and Energy, during which they both exchanged friendly notes and looked forward to closer diplomatic ties between their respective Countries.
Minister Paye thanked Ambassador Arguelles for the visit which significance he stressed, signals a boost in Cuba’s interest in fostering sisterly relations with Liberia. The Mines and Energy Minister said the World is currently experiencing a multipolar approach amongst Countries that is promoting development and providing opportunities for every Country to make independent decisions on crosscutting economic and cultural values. “Every Nation is an expert of its own situation. No one should tell us how to live, and we [too] will not tell other people how to live.” Minister Paye averred.
He told Ambassador Arguelles that the Liberian Government is open to working along with other Countries mainly in the area of trade, emphasizing that Liberia has something vital to offer the rest of the World and in doing so, the Minister noted that the Country [Liberia] will not accept any diplomatic relations that has strings attached, sometimes amounting to exploitation.
The Cuban Ambassador expressed warm appreciation to the Liberian Minister of Mines and Energy, and assured that her Country is interested in seeing Liberia achieve its development aspirations through collaborative efforts with global counterparts.
