JUNE 25, 2025-MONROVIA: Stakeholders of institutions responsible for achieving the deliverables of Pillar-5 – ‘Environmental Sustainability’ of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, convened a high-level coordination meeting at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Chaired by Minister Wilmot Paye. The Mines and Energy Ministry is the Lead on Pillar-5, while the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) serves as the Co-Lead.
The team deliberated on the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Reporting Framework, aimed at tracking the progress of key programs and ensuring efficiency in meeting national environmental sustainability targets. In brief introductory remarks, officials of the environmental governance institutions assured that their respective institutions are ready to collaborate with others in delivering on the objectives of Pillar-5 of the AAID.
They reechoed the collective commitment of the Government of Liberia to managing the Country’s forests, minerals, water resources, and biodiversity responsibly. The meeting looked at strategizes around climate resilience, mineral resource governance, biodiversity protection, solid waste management, energy, and environmental governance among others.
Concerned about translating efforts into results, the heads and representatives of Pillar-5 of the AAID then appointed a Secretariat or Working Group that will steer coordination, technical planning, and promote inter-agency alignment for optimal achievements of goals outlined in the Environmental Sustainability component of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development which strategic policy is ‘Climate Change’.
The Secretariat is headed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Members include:

To conclude the proceedings, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to delivering results that reflect the aims and objectives of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, espoused by the visionary leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
