JUNE 26, 2025-MONROVIA: Liberia’s Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of South Africa, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, respectively, have paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and held fruitful discussions with Minister Wilmot Paye, centered around exploring investment opportunities in the mining and energy sectors.
During the discussions, Ambassador Henry Boimah Fahnbulleh, who takes up mission soon in Egypt, assured the Mines and Energy Minister that the Liberian Embassy in that North African Nation will explore avenues of attracting Egypt’s investment interest in Liberia. Ambassador Fahnbulleh spoke highly of his diplomatic Mission’s readiness to work collaboratively with the Ministry of Mines and Energy in identifying potential mineral and energy possibilities in Liberia that Egypt can get involved with.
Similar notes were exchanged between the Mines and Energy Minister and Ambassador George Patten. With South Africa being a significant global player in the production of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), Manganese, Chromium, Gold, Diamond and other minerals, the Liberian Ambassador to that Country, Amb. George Patten, told Minister Wilmot Paye that his Mission will prevail on available opportunities in mining and energy.
Minister Paye used the courtesy visit by the two Liberian Ambassadors to abreast them of transformations his administration has embarked upon that are yielding good results in instituting reforms in both the mining and energy sectors. The Minister highlighted efforts the Ministry made in reviewing and advancing proposed amendments to the Minerals and Mining Law of 2000 so that the legal instrument can reflect current day realities.
Similarly, Minister Paye informed Ambassadors Fahnbulleh, and Patten, that the Ministry and sector institutions reviewed and validated the National Energy Policy of 2009, and also said, the Ministry has strengthened compliance enforcement that is ensuring that mining companies and those related to the sector operate in accordance with the law. Minister Paye said, now that the Ministry has succeeded in establishing county offices, accessing services the Ministry provides will shortly be decentralized to promote convenience and better monitoring and regulation regimes. Recruitment and hiring of the County Mines Officers, Geologists, and Environmentalists have been completed, and they take up assignments across the country soon.
Due to reforms the Ministry of Mines and Energy is currently undergoing, Minister Paye told Ambassadors Fahnbulleh, and Patten that the Government has tremendously improved investors’ confidence and interest in the mineral and energy sectors of Liberia, making the country a safe destination for trade and investment.
