JUNE 15, 2025-MONROVIA: As Singaporean Company – WestCrest Liberia aspires to transition from exploration to production, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has completed field inspection of the company’s exploration site in Tokpahpolu Town, Bong County.
The Ministry carried out the technical assessment over the weekend with a team of Geologists and Mining Engineers, headed by the Deputy Minister for Operations, William Hines. Deputy Minister Hines and delegation inspected drilled holes and samples of ore bodies the company collected and analyzed, which it believes, technically inform its decision to move into production. WestCrest Liberia’s exploration license covers locations in Bong, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties and it is interested in mining iron ore in Liberia.
Speaking during the field assessment, Deputy Minister Hines said the exercise gave the Ministry of Mines and Energy a better picture of the level of exploration work the company has done, and stated that results from the verification will be reviewed by the Ministry for further determination regarding WestCrest’s proposal to obtain a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) from the Liberian government.
Deputy Minister Hines told the Company that the government welcomes more interests from investors in establishing mining operations in the Country to provide more jobs for citizens and through revenue generation, support important sectors including health, education, boost electricity provision and construct more roads and other infrastructures. But, the Deputy Minister noted that the Ministry of Mines and Energy will make sure the appropriate processes and procedures leading to the government granting MDAs to would-be mining companies are strictly applied.
Deputy Minister William Hines then lauded WestCrest-Liberia for the cooperation the Ministry received during the field visit which was an integral part of the Ministry assessing the full operational capacity of the exploration company to properly handle mineral production (iron ore) here. As part of their application for MDA, they had earlier done a PowerPoint presentation on June 4, 2025, at the Ministry’s head-office, explaining their plans and readiness for establishing a Class ‘A’ Iron Ore mining company in Liberia.
Deputy Minister for Planning, Research and Development, Fahnseth Mulbah, Assistant Minister for Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research, Oliver Gbegbe, formed part of Deputy Minister Hines’ delegation which also comprised the Directors of Mines, and Geological Survey, Alwell Aloysius Carr, and Anthony Kullie, as well as other technicians.
