Ministry of Mines & Energy Liberia
JULY 16, 2025 – MOROVIA: The Ministry of Mines and Energy terms as false, misleading, and baseless, insinuations that officials were either “financially induced”, or “coerced” to act in favor of or against applications for an Exploration License filed by 79 Resources incorporated, and North Western Mining Incorporated.
While it is a known fact that the two (2) companies had applied for the same license area and also that their applications were undergoing the necessary evaluation as required by the Minerals and Mining Law of 2000, and the Exploration Regulations, the process was suspended after the discovery of verifiable anomalies and inconsistencies in the submissions by the two applicants. The Ministry of Mines and Energy is acting strictly in accordance with law and will not yield to any pressure resulting from blackmail from applicants or their associates.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy assures the public of its total commitment to the ongoing clampdown against illicit activities in the mining sector and that it will act promptly as and when necessary. Meanwhile, the Ministry urges the public to cooperate fully with the national fight against illicit mining which poses a direct threat to the Country’s mineral resources.
