Professional Summary:

Hon. Samuel J. Summerville is a professional geoscientist with over twenty-three years’ experience working in the public, private and development sectors of the Minerals and Mining Industry of Liberia. He is the Assistant Minister for Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Republic of Liberia. Assistant Minister Summerville has excellent working knowledge on project management, planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation. He is committed to transparency, accountability, and environmental stewardship in the mining sector. 

Qualifications:

 Master of Science (Geology); University of Western Australia

Graduate Diploma of Science (General Geology); University of Western Australia Bachelor of Science Degree (Geology); University of Liberia

 

Professional Experience:

Hon. Summerville currently serves as Technical Advisor for Liberia, at the Regional Resource Governance Program, German Development Cooperation (GIZ). His core task is advising partners (Government institutions, Civil Society, Private Sector), on development programs, control mechanisms, strategies, and activities aimed to improve the mining sector of Liberia.

Formally Mr. Summerville served as Assistant Minister for Planning & Development, Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy. There, he developed, monitored, and evaluated all technical operational and developmental plans of the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy to ensure consistency with mandates of each department, and the vision of the Ministry.

As a professional geologist, Hon. Summerville worked with several exploration companies including, Bea Mountain Mining Company. BHP Billiton Iron Ore, American-Liberia United Minerals amongst others,

Hon. Summerville is passionate about developing the skill sets of young Liberians and volunteers as an Adjunct instructor, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Liberia.

He is married to Martha-Blossom and their union is blessed with two children Mya-Samantha and Sam Jr.
